CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A8 Review and Specs

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A8 Review and Specs. While CYBERPOWERPC’s flagship Gamer Xtreme Series is a powerful showpiece melding together the best of gaming components for both enthusiast and high-end gamers. The new CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A8 comes in for the pro-gamers who need the best of modern technologies in a standard tower design.

Like its predecessor– the CYBERPOWERPC Gamer GXiVR8060A7, our review unit is a stylish workhorse, with a spacious interior that promises tinkerers an easy path to perform upgrades without the usual struggle of building a gaming rig from scratch.

The technical capability here is indeed impressive, thanks to a 9th Generation Intel Core i9-9900K processor, 16GB of memory and a 1TB solid state drive. There’s more to a high-end desktop than the processor it equips. The CPU specification is often the least important, because every OEM has access to the same Intel hardware, and that where the consideration on graphics comes into play.

What really sets a system like the Gamer Xtreme apart is quality and choice of GPU. Our review unit packs the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super graphics card, part of the Turing architecture, a family of high-resolve graphics cards capable of real-time ray tracing.

By combining a capable 9th Gen Core i9 CPU and a performant RTX 2070 Super GPU, CYBERPOWERPC have managed to create a muscular gaming PC With enough real estate for future upgrades. In other words, the gamer GXiVR8080A8 is a PC you can invest in today and make more powerful tomorrow.

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A8 Productivity Performance

The Intel Core i7-9900K is no slouch, not especially when its twinned with 16 GB of RAM, a 1TB PCIe-NVMe SSD. That makes the Gamer GXiVR8080A8 a heck of a workhorse when you’re not using it for gaming. Though CYBERPOWERPC bills the Gamer Xtreme as a gaming PC, it’s possible for small business owners and home users to adopt it for productivity given the machine’s high-end processors and graphics.

It will certainly complete intensive tasks such as video encoding, within a very short time– in some cases in just under 80 seconds, over the 124 seconds you get from the HP Omen Obelisk’s 8th-generation processor on the same task. Again, the GXiVR8080A8 ships with a speedy 1TB solid state drive that will house all your larger files. The drive and RAM are upgradable should you find the need for more space to store your documents, photos, videos, and game files.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super vs RTX 2070

Thanks to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super, the Gamer GXiVR8080A8 is capable of gaming at the highest settings without much hassles, as well as enabling ray tracing in select games. Back in October 2018 when the Nvidia Turing line was released, it promised stellar performance coupled with ray tracing in games. And, while some of the graphics in the line delivered fantastic gameplay, like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, some mid-range cards, particularly the RTX 2070 came off rather subpar.

With the RTX 2070 Super graphics card, Nvidia is here to course correct a little bit with the newer GPU, promising much stronger performance in this edition, by making it the already successful Nvidia Turing architecture more available to the masses. It takes the RTX 2070’s 2,304 CUDA bumps and cores everything up to 2,560 and also builds on higher clocks with a 1,770 MHz boost clock. The only thing that remains the same between the two is the memory, that is constant at 8GB, but the newer iteration features more RT and Tensor Cores, and is rated for better ray tracing performance at 7 Giga Rays.

Gaming, Graphics and VR

You will get smooth frame rates on modern games, making it a meaningful upgrade over the base RTX 2070 GPU. When you play Metro Exodus (2019) on Ultra settings at 4K, it runs between 33 and 36 frames per second (fps), with some screen tearing. When you turn it down to FHD, it runs at a smooth 80-4 fps, only dropping those fluid frame rates during some intense scenes.

The GXiVR8080A8 plays the Hitman 2 (2018) benchmark (ultra-settings) at 81 fps in FHD, tying the Trace 9230 and beating the average. The frame rate dropped to 61 fps in 4K, just below the gaming desktop average and MSI’s machine.

On Shadow of the Tomb Raider (highest settings), the Gamer GXiVR8080A8 hits 109 fps in FHD and 43 fps in 4K, falling just above the gaming desktop averages (94 fps and 34 fps, respectively) but only below the Vengeance in terms of our comparison group.

On the Grand Theft Auto V (2015) benchmark (very high settings), the Gamer Xtreme runs at 140 fps in FHD and 102 fps in 4K. The former number is higher than average, but the latter is lower.

The Xtreme GXiVR8080A8 earns a perfect score of 10 on the SteamVR performance test.

CYBERPOWERPC Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A8 Design

CYBERPOWERPC’s design hasn’t changed at all on the desktop front. This year’s gamer Xtreme looks the same as in the past. It has a premium, yet minimalist look, with clean angles and some simple RGB lighting. The side panels are dark gunmetal with two RGB light circles pointing towards the transparent glass panel on the left side, and another one on the rear fan panel The other lighting is on the CYBERPOWERPC logo on the front, which breaks up the all-black section on the face panels. Both the bottom and rear panel have ventilation holes, as does the top.

I do like that CYBERPOWERPC considered using some more aluminum, compared to the Alienware Aurora that’s very plasticky (albeit with metal reinforcement). Sure, that makes sense for a premium model, because it feels out of place once you pass the $1000 configuration mark and still have a plastic build.

Standing at 18.5 x 8.2 x 18.7 inches, the Gamer Xtreme is smaller than many of its competitors, which are equally designed to accommodate future upgrades. The iBUYPOWER Pro Trace 9230 is 19.48 x 8.54 x 19.76 inches while the Skytech Gaming [RTX 2070] Oracle X is closes in size at 18.7 x 8.27 x 18.5 inches.

Ports and Upgradability

You’ll appreciate the port variety on the front of the Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8080A8. The top is home to two USB 3.0 Type-A ports and separate headphone and microphone jacks. Around the back, there are another six USB 3.1 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, ready for peripherals and external storage, as well as an Ethernet jack, a variety of audio jacks. On the RTX 2070 Super graphics, there is a single HDMI port and a pair of DisplayPort inputs for extending your display. Wireless connectivity comes in way of 802.11 AC Wi-Fi. Also bundles into the package is a gaming keyboard and mouse.

It is easy to get into the Gamer Xtreme, since the glass panel covering the components is removable with four simple hand screws. You have access to the internal components that are held in place by swing out hinges that let you replace the parts easily when that’s removed. All said, the GXiVR8080A8 is a well-designed desktop, even if it’s not exactly a space saver.

Our Opinion

The CYBERPOWERPC Gamer GXiVR8080A8 is a strong performer that’s easily upgradeable, but its still very functional out-of-the box with the latest components including a 9th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU and the latest Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super GPU. Its design is still bulky compared to the cleaner, more modern aesthetic offered by competitors. We’re looking forward to a redesign with a new design language, like what we saw on the Razer Blade 15 (RTX 20170) gaming laptop.

Is there a better alternative?

Not in this category. The Gamer Xtreme is a stand-out among boutique-built gaming desktops.

A less expensive system could serve you better if raw performance value is your main goals, of which the Gamer Xtreme GXiVR8060A7 stacks up well to the competition from other custom PC builders.
